Mathematics Colloquium - Factoring RSA230, 4959866698915122 6098104244512918, and Broader Trends in Cryptography

Speaker:     Dr. Samuel S. Gross
Mathematician and Cryptographer at Noblis, Inc.

Abstract:     We will discuss the recent computation resulting in the factorization of the RSA230 challenge number in August 2018, as well as even more recent factoring records. A connection between the composite number above and factoring methods will also be discussed. Time permitting, we shall discuss some possible futures for strong encryption in a post-quantum world.

The speaker will bring along a junior colleague and they both are willing and able to talk with students about working at Noblis, and in their industry in general. Please encourage your students to attend the talk and feel free to set up something either formal or informal for your students who are interested.
