Abstract: Makerspaces are physical spaces that provide access to various tools to foster tinkering, designing, and learning (Nichols & Corum, 2024). These spaces can be transformative for education as they allow us to redefine what counts as learning and what it means to be a learner (Halverson & Sheridan, 2014). A recent estimate reveals that there are more than 2,000 makerspaces across the United States (Nation of Makers, n.d.). To realize the full potential of makerspaces in STEM education, teachers need to be prepared to integrate these spaces into the classroom. In this presentation, Dr. Corum will share an instructional approach to support teachers’ development of technological pedagogical content knowledge for makerspaces. Findings from this study demonstrate teachers’ enthusiasm for and ability to utilize makerspaces to support their classroom practice.
