Shaw highlights the humanity of the viewer by illustrating the humanity of his subjects, with a particular focus on the multiple aspects of the Black/Africanist experience. His authentic portrayals of the Black body celebrate the complexity of his subjects while highlighting how often such bodies are misrepresented and misunderstood. He has exhibited and published widely and is well known for his many murals. Shaw holds an MFA from Howard University and a BFA from Morgan State University.

Reception following the lecture.
