Facilitator: E. Mairin Barney, Assistant Director for Faculty Outreach, Towson University Writing Center
What is the purpose of a writing assignment? What makes an assignment effective at the introductory, intermediate, and graduate levels? What genres and contexts help facilitate student learning? At this interactive workshop, faculty will learn about threshold concepts as drivers of assignment design. They will work independently or in small groups to brainstorm threshold concepts for their disciplines and reflect on sample assignments from a range of courses in order to imagine specific revisions for major assignments in writing-intensive courses.
Lunch will be provided after the session from 12 - 1 p.m.
Co-sponsored by the Faculty Academic Center of Excellence at Towson (FACET) and the Writing Center.
