In this guided workshop by Cultura Plenera, embrace and participate in the rhythms of Puerto Rico! This Bomba workshop is an interactive experience with visitors taking up hand drums and learning traditional Puerto Rican rhythms. Drum, sing, dance, or listen with curiosity.
Bomba is a Puerto Rican musical genre that dates back more than 300 years. With heavy African influences, Bomba expresses the sentiments of Puerto Ricans and their culture through barrel drums, maraca, cúa, singer and dancers. Both Bomba is central to life in Puerto Rican communities inside and outside of the island. Drums will be provided to participants.
It’s free to attend, but registration is encouraged to provide an estimate of drums needed. This event immediately precedes the 4:30 p.m. Cultura Plenera concert.
