- easy access to a search engine
- note-taking materials for cataloguing verbal ideas
- pencil and paper for cataloguing visual ideas, hi-liters, a means of collecting images (e.g. a Pinterest mood board, storage on a personal device, or a Smithsonian Learning Lab account)
- drawing tools,( e.g. graphite, colored pencils, etc.)
