The Towson University Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Committee will host Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®, a men’s march to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence, on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 12 p.m.
The event marks April as National Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and invites men to walk one mile on campus in a pair of women’s shoes to raise awareness about sexualized violence toward women.
The event begins at 12 p.m. with registration starting at 11 a.m. at the Potomac Patio of the University Union. The TU Police Department will escort participants along a one-mile route on campus, followed by a rally with local speakers and artists, refreshments, and on- and off-campus resources.
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: The International Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault and Gender Violence was founded in 2001 by Frank Baird, a psychotherapist and marriage counselor. Now in its eleventh year, the event draws large crowds in multiple locations nationwide.
Put yourself in HER shoes. 1 in 6 American women are victims of sexual assault. Put an end to the violence.
