Hill is associate curator for African Art and department head of Arts of Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific Islands at the Baltimore Museum of Art. Her talk will explore The Lost Men Project, a long running, multinational series of installations by South African Paul Emmanuel. Mounted on battlefields in which historic wars were fought and Africans died, The Lost Men Project has thus far recovered histories in South Africa, Mozambique and France. Hill will examine the complexities of such international art projects, how and why The Lost Men Project has faced censorship, and the ways that Emmanuel’s use of his body registers meaningfully within those who experience his work.
